Ruth needed a bed for her guest room that would:
We wanted a similar bed, so we worked and planned together, and this is what we came up with.
This is the one we made for ourselves. It's a day bed most of the time, measuring 38" X 80". When we have a guest , we pull the leg boards out from under the bed, move the bed board and pad from behind the bed and place them on the legs. It becomes a queen size bed, 60 X 80 inches. To return it to it's smaller size, we just move the extra pad and board to the back, push in the legs and we're all set. Close up view of legs:
This bed was made from two 3/4" sheets (4X8 feet) of hardwood plywood. We purchased the boards from Home Depot, who also were gracious enough to make the cuts for us. We cut the handholds on the leg boards, sanded everything and put it together with deck screws of various lengths. We made a similar bed for Mom. She found some plastic containers with wheels that just fit under the bed for storage of the bedding.
